Tesla taking orders for Model 3 on March 31
Tesla Australia has confirmed it will unveil the Model 3 Tesla model on April 1.
Model 3 reservations will start in Australia, and worldwide, on March 31 at $1500, making it the first country in the world to take Model 3 reservations.
There are two ways to make a reservation. The first is to visit a Tesla store when it opens on March 31. The second is to make a reservation online at Tesla.com.
In order to be as fair as possible, there will be a different queue for each region. And as a thank you to current owners, existing customers will get priority in each region, meaning that the fastest way to buy a Model 3 is to own a Model S or Model X
The following Australian stores will be selling the Model 3:
Melbourne Service Centre and Store – Shop 4 650 Church St Cremorne – 8.00am opening time
- Chadestone Store – Chadstone Shopping Centre Melbourne, outside of Myer – 9.00am opening time
- Sydney Service Centre and Store – 10 Herbert St St Leonards – 8.00am opening time
- Carindale Display – Carindale Shopping Centre Brisbane – 9:00am opening time
There is little specific information about the Model 3, but Tesla Australia confirms that the new model will have a price tag of US$35,000 (AUD$46,195).
“However, it is too early to provide exact pricing for Australia, with exchange rates and transportation,” Tesla senior marketing and communications manager, Heath Walker told AutoTalk.
What is known is that it will be capable of driving at least 320 kilometres on a single charge. Tesla has emphasized this about Model 3 on previous occasions.
Tesla will also be using its own batteries this time around, sourced from its Gigafactory under construction in Nevada.
Production and deliveries won’t start until late 2017 so those looking to purchase a Model 3 will have to be patient.
Once production begins, deliveries in the US will start on the West Coast and make their way east. Once production ramps up, Europe, APAC and right-hand drive markets will begin to receive shipments as well.
