EV toll break not on the cards

Electric vehicles won’t be given exemption on toll roads planned for Auckland, says transport minister Simon Bridges.

Asked whether toll breaks were a realistic way of the government encouraging the use of zero emission vehicles, Bridges told stuff.co.nz it was an “interesting question” but the news for EV owners wasn’t too optimistic.

“Given are about changing behaviours I could see that one of those could be changing behaviour to lower emission technologies,” he said.

But he then warned that we should not “get ahead of ourselves”.
