Vector highlights new charge on McDonald’s menu

Electric vehicle enthusiasts were undeterred by the blustery weather on Friday July 29, with around 40 turning up for the launch of two rapid chargers at McDonald’s Greenlane.

On display were a number of electric vehicles, including a Tesla, BMW i8 and i3 and Nissan Leafs.
People arrived throughout the launch to plug in their vehicles.

There are now eight rapid chargers deployed across Auckland, with installations planned this year for BP Pakuranga and Auckland Airport Shopping Centre.

EV chargers used regularly

Vector’s electric vehicle charging stations continue to be used regularly. Since it began installing chargers in November 2015, it has served 29.54MWh of electricity, potentially saving as much as 39,263.79kg of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.

The average electric car can drive 5,754 km on every MWh of electricity served. And on average, an average medium-sized petrol car emits 0.231kg CO2 emissions per km.

The busiest station over the past week was Newmarket, with 112 charges; the average number of charging sessions recorded was 351.71 sessions; the average length of a charging session was 17.75 minutes; and the megawatt hours consumed amounted to 1.67MWh.
