Getting charged at MOTAT this weekend

To celebrate Vector’s launch of a standard charger at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT), the museum has collaborated with the Better NZ Trust to host an electric vehicle (EV) gathering.

The gathering, scheduled for Sunday September 18 in conjunction with International Drive Electric Week, is set to be the largest gathering of EVs the country has ever seen with over 70 EVs onsite, including the Tesla Model S, BMW i3, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid and many more.

The 70 plus EVs will be on display at the museum between 10am and 4pm, accompanied by MOTAT admission fees, while the new charger will be accessible from Stadium Rd.

Whether visitors are interested in zero carbon renewable energy technologies or are avid motoring fans, they are sure to be impressed by the rare sight of a Tesla fleet parked side-by-side.

Also a highlight is the sharing of personal experience of owning an EV by participants at the event, including a focus on the benefits they offer and how the appropriate infrastructure is being rolled out in New Zealand.

To make it easier for motorists to transition to EVs and overcome range anxiety, Vector has deployed 12 rapid chargers across Auckland, along with nine standard chargers.

Vector chief executive Simon Mackenzie says the event is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the increasing uptake and popularity of EVs as more charging stations become available around Auckland.
