Nissan Leaf now comes with 30kWh battery pack

Nissan Motor Company has discontinued use of the 24kWh battery in the Nissan Leaf.

John Voelcker from the Green Car Reports contacted Paige Presley at Nissan North America’s communications group and got word that Nissan had made a running change to the 2016 Leaf S model to equip it with 30kWh battery packs as standard equipment.  

Presley says that all 2016 Leaf S vehicles equipped with the 30kWh battery pack will also come with the ‘quick charge package’ as a standard feature.

“The base price of the 2016 Leaf S with the 30kWh battery and ‘quick charge package’ is $32,450 [NZ$45,997] before any federal, state or regional incentives are applied,” he added.

“Should a customer desire a 2016 Leaf S with a 24kWh battery, they can visit to locate a vehicle or find a dealership that will assist.”

The updated Nissan Leaf S cars were on offer at dealerships from late last month.

Pedro Lima reported in his article ‘Nissan discontinues 24kWh battery in the USA’ that this information isn’t surprising since Nissan Leaf’s lowest trim boasted the 30kWh battery in Portugal and Spain since last July.

He added that a highlight of the Los Angeles Auto Show next month will be the showcasing of this upgraded 2017 Nisan Leaf with 30kWh battery in the lowest trim and 41kWh for the highest.

Lima says that the Chevrolet Bolt EV surprised with its range and efficiency and queried whether the “facelifted” 2017 Nissan Leaf can surprise in some way.

“We already know the range will be lower but it can have better efficiency, higher charging rate and of course a much lower price tag,” he concluded.
