Battery maker Rectifier Technologies now has a high-speed home charger for EVs, aimed at avoiding on-board chargers and costly AC chargers.

The Australian-based company has just revealed its first generation EV DC Home Charger 11kW, demonstrated at the 30th International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS30) in Stuttgart, Germany, from October 9-11.

Up to a billion EVs are expected on roads worldwide by 2050 and most would be charged at home, driving demand for home chargers.

Electric charging stations in many places need an on-board charger to convert AC power from a wall socket to the DC power that charges the car battery.

Rectifier says its technology removes the need for those onboard chargers and can charge many EVs in three hours.

An app controls the hardware, linked to Wi-Fi.

Rectifier Technologies Pacific is based in Burwood, Victoria.
