BMW expands electric truck fleet

Three electric trucks are now in use at BMW’s home plant in Munich.

The 40-tonne covered semi-trailers are used in the company’s logistic operations for the transportation of vehicles.

The first electric truck was introduced in 2015 with two more added this month.

They are helping the plant reduce carbon emissions by around 82 tonnes every year.

The e-trucks have a range of up to 160 kilometres each when fully charged.

City of Munich business development director Kurt Kapp says reducing pollution is now “more relevant than ever”.
“We are therefore delighted that the BMW Group, together with its logistic service providers, is expanding its fleet of e-trucks and making a forward-looking contribution to reducing emissions in the city of Munich,” he says.

BMW director Dr Milan Nedeljkovic says the company is “setting a strong example” around resource saving.
“We are proud to be a pioneer in sustainable city logistics since 2015 and to make a contribution to reducing emissions in the city by around 82 tonnes,” he says.
