Major road networks hanging by a thread: Collins

Important road infrastructure projects around New Zealand are in doubt, opposition transport spokesperson Judith Collins says.

Projects include the Redoubt Rd to Mill Rd corridor project from Manukau and Flat Bush to Papakura and Drury.

The extension of the Waikato Expressway from Cambridge to the Kaimai Range and the Christchurch to Ashburton road developments are others in question, Collins says.

“The Government’s refusal to commit to important roading projects right around New Zealand is undermining regional confidence and jeopardising much-needed housing developments,” she says.
The NZ Transport Agency is already committed to funding the Mill Rd extension.

The area is seeing high growth and housing development and is a critical area for the movement of freight and aggregates, she says.

Over 80% of Auckland’s quarry material is sourced within 20km of Mill Rd.

The Government has already canned the East-West Link which would have joined State Highway 1 and 20 in Auckland as part of its confidence and supply deal with the Greens.
