Drink driver reassures police
A San Francisco drink-driver has been caught in the middle of traffic on the famous Bay Bridge, after allegedly passing out in his Tesla.
The California Highway Patrol was called to a stationary Tesla Model S in 5.30pm traffic having passed out from drinking, but when awoken, reassured officers the electric car was in “AutoPilot” mode.
On Saturday afternoon officers found the Tesla owner had double the legal limit of blood-alcohol concentration in his system.
“Driver explained Tesla had been set on autopilot,” CHP San Francisco posted on Twitter.
“He was arrested and charged with suspicion of DUI. Car towed (no it didn’t drive itself to the tow yard).”
Tesla’s AutoPilot is legally allowed to function for two minutes with “hands-off” operation, however the driver must always remain in control of the vehicle.
