Irish taxi drivers that switch to an electric vehicle could be in line for a €7000 grant.
The country’s transport minister Shane Ross is set to announce the grant on top of existing electric car incentives, the Irish Times reports.
These include a €5,000 rebate on vehicle registration tax and a €3,800 grant from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
The Irish government is also looking at other ways to improve EV uptake.
Environment minister Denis Naughten is looking at making motorways tolls free for EVs and banning sales of any non-hybrid or electric car from 2030.
Despite the incentives, just 622 EVs were sold on the Irish new car market last year from a total of 131,335 vehicles.
