New Import Health Standard details available

New Imported Health Standard requirements for vehicles including EVs being imported from Japan are now available on the Ministry for Primary Industry’s website
.
The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) says the updated requirements reflect MPI’s policy of keeping risk offshore where possible, following the discovery of stink bugs on ships from Japan.
They also ensure all vehicles and machinery undergo thorough cleaning in Japan before they are loaded on a vessel or into a sea container bound for New Zealand.
VIA says some large vehicles like trucks can’t be processed by one of the approved vehicle system operators.
In that case, importers of these vehicles are being asked to talk with MPI directly for equivalent measures, to ensure that all vehicles for export are free of biosecurity contamination.
