Nissan Leaf fleet for Japan’s police

A fleet of new Nissan Leafs will be used by Japan’s police.

Fukuoka police have received 22 of the new 40kWh Leafs, which Nissan says are destined for use as patrol vehicles and for public relations programme such as crime prevention and traffic safety, Electrek reports.

More police fleets are incorporating EVs.

Some opt for Teslas, such as Swiss police with seven Model X vehicles, police departments in Los Angeles and Denver in the US, Ontario in Canada, and Luxembourg in Europe.

But other EVs and hydrogen or hybrid vehicles are being considered or purchased too.

Scotland Yard has 11 Toyoto Mirai hydrogen fuel cell cars.

A Chevrolet Bolt EV has been obtained by the Hyattsville City Police Department in Maryland, USA. Electrek says police there also have a Ford Fusion Hybrid, a Zero electric motorcycle and a few Segways, the department aiming to electrify its 65-vehicle fleet.
