Infiniti confirms new EV platform

Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti has confirmed work on a new electric vehicle platform based on the Q Inspiration concept car.

It expects to have EVs ready within two years and a sedan based on the concept car in production in China within five years.

Infiniti announced ‘it will go electric’ starting in 2021, but is only talking about adding “electrified powertrains” to its line-up, which can mean many things, Electrek

“Infiniti is developing a new platform for electrified vehicles inspired by the Q Inspiration concept car, which shows the new design language for the age of autonomy and electrification,” Infiniti chairman and global president Roland Krueger announced at a special Auto China preview.

He says the concept shows a very sporty, performance-oriented electric concept, with a much bigger interior space.

The company also recently announced plans to build five new models in China and electrify its portfolio, which could mean pure electric vehicles (BEV) or e-Power vehicles (EVs with a gas-powered range extender without any plug-in or all-electric range).
