One in five USA drivers want an EV

aaaAn increasing number of Americans want an electric vehicle, a new report shows.

Around 50 million (20%) of USA drivers say they’ll likely move to electric for their next vehicle purchase, the AAA says.

That’s well up on the 15% who answered the same way in the 2017 survey by the AAA, previously known as the American Automobile Association.

The AAA finds show less concern about range anxiety and that drivers are attracted to EVs’ lower long-term costs and advanced technology.

Realiability is one of the biggest points, about 92% of those surveyed saying that’s important when evaluating options. Crash ratings are also a priority for 77%.

About 80% of potential EV buyers cite environmental benefits as a key reason.

But charging times are too long for many, 68% saying it should be no more than 30 minutes while they’re out and about.
