Electric Jaguar E-Type takes royals to reception
Prince Harry drove bride Meghan Markle to their evening reception in a silver blue electric Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero.
The electric version is based on the car built in 1968, the E-Type’s usual 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine replaced with a 40kWh battery driving a 220kW engine, which can be charged in about seven hours.
It looks and drives like the original E-Type, but it is about a second quicker at 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds.
Prince Harry kept to a sedate pace on the short drive from Windsor Castle after their wedding to the reception at Frogmore House.
About 200 close friends and family members attended.
The E-Type’s number plate E190518 represented the wedding date and the car was left-hand drive, which some attributed to the Duchess of Sussex’s American heritage.
The Concept Zero/E-Type combination provides a breath-taking driving sensation, Jaguar Land Rover Classic director Tim Hannig says.
“Our aim with the E-type Zero is to future-proof classic car ownership,” he said at its launch last year.
Jaguar land Rover is owned by Tata Motors.
