Andy Murray gets electric Jaguar

Two-time Wimbledon tennis champion Andy Murray has fulfilled the promise he made during World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) World Earth Hour to ‘go electric’.

He became one of the first Jaguar I-Pace customers on World Environment Day, June 5.

The all-electric Jaguar SUV is due in New Zealand early next year, with 24 orders already taken from here.

Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver and fellow WWF ambassador Nelson Piquet Jr made the special delivery to the British tennis star at his training camp ahead of the grass court season.

“It’s important we all take small steps to live a more sustainable life and think about the actions we can make to look after our planet,” Murray says “This is one of the reasons I’m making the switch to driving Jaguar’s new all-electric I-Pace. It’s clean and safe, but also has the world class design and sports performance that suits my lifestyle.”

The I-Pace has rapid charging from 0-80% in 45 minutes and offers a 480km range.

Jaguar Land Rover NZ general manager Steve Kenchington says already more than two dozen Kiwis have placed a deposit on the vehicle – before pricing and timing have been confirmed.

“The high number of local customers who have already purchased the I-Pace without having seen the new model or had details of pricing and launch timing, demonstrates the potential demand for this vehicle.

“We are expecting to field a lot more enquiries before the second quarter of next year when the I-Pace will arrive in New Zealand.”
