Tesla Model 3 closes on production goal – Y due in 2020.

The Tesla Model Y SUV will be unveiled on March 15, 2019.

Elon Musk has released a picture showing it has a similar style to the Model X, saying 2020 is a more likely prospect for the Y.

The Model Y was expected to be on sale in 2019, but is now reported to be ready in July or August 2020.

Tesla is also working on a people mover and a Golf-sized EV, along with a second-generation Roadster, a pure-electric pick-up and a full-size Tesla truck.

The Model Y is set to come with all-wheel drive and a range of 350km for the standard version and about 500km for the long-range model.

The Model 3 remains at least a year away from Australia and New Zealand, but Musk says about 5000 a week are expected to be made by the end of this month.

Tesla has previously said it wouldn’t generate profits until it starts to make 5000 Model 3s a week on a consistent basis.

“This is like … the most excruciating, hellish several months I’ve maybe ever had,” Musk told a shareholder meeting this week. “But I think we’re getting there.”

Meanwhile, The Australian Financial Review reports Tesla Australia made a profit despite its parent’s loss and Australia’s poor electric car market.

Tesla Motors Australia Pty reported A$160.7 million revenue in calendar 2017, up from A$52.6 million in 2016, and profit up to A$1.36 million from A$220,000.
