Feeding the EV pipeline

An issue plaguing the motor industry is feeding the pipeline of vehicles to meet the Government’s target of 64,000 electric vehicles registered by 2021.

Meeting the needs of the future EV retail industry, as well as the skill shortage in EV servicing, are some of the issues addressed by the EVworld NZ Motor Industry Forum on August 9.

This forum provides the lead in to the EVworld NZ Industry Conference and trade expo on August 10 and a free public day on August 11 at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland – all hosted by Conferenz.

Industry representatives will discuss the future pipeline and the importance of upskilling the sector to create an environment providing for the development of EVs across public and private sectors.

The Motor Industry Forum takes a deeper dive into some of the issues at the EVworld NZ Industry Conference on August 10 and aims to bring together the entire motor industry to provide a platform for discussion and maximise the EV opportunity for New Zealand’s fleets and public vehicle sales.

David Vinsen from the Imported Motor Vehicle Association (VIA) will chair the forum, while Dean Sheed provides insight from Drive Electric on the forecast for EV supply and demand.

They will be joined by EVangelists such as Janet Lane from MITO and Cliff McKenna from WelTec and Whitireia. The forum will address the imperatives for providing a more stringent regulatory environment for new and used vehicles and the opportunities to further drive the EV market here.

In addition to the Motor Industry Forum, there will be an EV Fleet Development Forum, Network and Infrastructure Forum, and Local Government Forum – each with the goal to provide a platform for deep discussion on some of the biggest barriers to NZ’s EV uptake.

The EVworld EV Fleet Development Forum covers the switch to electric in the commercial fleet, looking into business case development, getting board buy-in and investigating opportunities and challenges with the EV options.

AA business vehicle solutions senior accounts manager Mark Lloyd hosts the forum.

Nicholas Robilliard from Meridian Energy presents the keynote address, sharing Meridian’s work into the total cost of ownership and residual value for companies investigating the viability of the electric fleet.

The forum features a panel with leading industry experts – Henrik Moller from Flip the Fleet, Phil Jones from Sustainable Business Network, Geoff Bold from F&P Healthcare, and Dennis Kelly from FleetPartners NZ.

They will discuss challenges such as leasing options for fleet development, car sharing with EVs, the best models for EV fleet development and the benefits of committing to zero carbon transport.
