Mevo records triple figure growth

Climate-positive car-share company Mevo has achieved strong annual growth, supercharged by the successful roll-out of Australasia’s first free-floating car-share scheme in May 2018.

The past year has been massive for the company as it broke ground on key milestones, including the expansion of its fleet, a growth in membership, and an increase in overall trips being made its plug-in hybrid A3 Audis.

Wellington-based Mevo has had a 120% increase in sign-ups and seen a 150% increase in the number of trips made in its vehicles since May 2018. The figures point to the widespread appeal of communal-use transport alternatives, and the eager adoption of the free-floating model, the company says.

“By giving Wellingtonians the flexibility to pick up and drop off our cars as needed across the city for the first time, we’ve drastically improved the consumer experience of using a car share,” Mevo chief executive officer and co-founder Erik Zydervelt says.

“With our rate of customer sign-ups more than doubling since we brought in free-floating, members are using the cars more than ever and the numbers suggest there is a huge demand for the transport model we are offering.”

To service a quickly growing customer base, Mevo has nearly doubled its fleet, ensuring that users always have an Audi A3 e-tron Sportback within a short walking distance.

Mevo continues to expand the borders of its Home Zone to include Thorndon and parts of Kelburn. It will reach a range of new Wellington suburbs in 2019 when it also plans an Auckland roll out.

Maryon Wils has recently been appointed corporate partnerships head with Mevo expanding its business travel division.

The car-share has signed more than 30 companies and government agencies to support business travel for their employees. Some of these include Meridian Energy, Consumer NZ, and Z Energy.

“After moving our office to the middle of town recently, we made the decision to axe our company vehicle in favour of Mevo, which made more sense logistically and financially,” Consumer NZ testing head Paul Smith says.

For Z Energy, the car-share fits well with the company’s sustainability ethos.

“We’ve been a huge supporter of Mevo from the start, but the best endorsement always comes from using and appreciating the product itself,” Z Energy chief executive officers Mike Bennetts says.

Mevo plans national and international expansion, and to reach 50 vehicles in its Wellington fleet by April 2019.
