‘Improper tests’ prompt Nissan recall of 150,000 cars

Nissan is recalling 150,000 cars sold in Japan due to what it says were improper tests carried out on brakes, speedometers and other systems at its domestic assembly plant prior to shipment.

Among about 10 models affected are Leaf electric cars, Note hatchbacks, and Cube and March cars produced between November 2017 and October 2018.

“Nissan has recently found several non-conformities that may have caused inaccurate pass/fail judgements during the inspection process,” the company says.

Nissan vice president Seiji Honda says the company is reviewing internal systems for its regulatory compliance.

The news this week comes as another blow to Nissan after the shock arrest of former chairman Carlos Ghosn who denies any wrongdoing.

He has been removed from the boards of Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors.

Nissan expects to announce Ghosn’s successor on December 17.
