BMW’s electric arm marks 10 years this month, production of its flagship BMW iX due to start shortly followed by the world premiere of its BMW i4.

A pioneer in sustainable mobility, BMW i began in 2011 with the motto “Born Electric” as BMW Group’s workshop for the future – its popular BMW i3 debuting as a concept at the 2011 International Motor Show Germany with production starting in September 2013 in Leipzig.

Continuing the trend, the BMW Group aims to offer 25 electrified models by 2023 and have more than seven million electrified vehicles on the road worldwide by 2030, two-thirds of which will be fully electric.

It’s planning an electric variant of the next generation of the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, for example. Subsequently, the high-volume BMW 5 Series and BMW X1 Series will also be launched with a fully electric drive.

The 10th anniversary of the BMW i brand features on social media with a broad-based information campaign running on BMW’s other social media channels, continuing until the International Motor Show (IAA) 2021 in Germany on September 7-12.

The group’s sustainability goals include use of raw materials obtained in accordance with strict environmental and social standards, an exceptionally high proportion of recycled and secondary materials and the use of electricity generated 100% from renewable sources.
