Hyundai Ioniq 5 interest shows Kiwis ready for EV era

Public interest has surged in New Zealand following the recent global unveiling of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with pre-orders already reaching double digits.

“We are really pleased by the initial interest in the Ioniq 5,” Hyundai New Zealand general manager Andy Sinclair says.

“Our team and dealer network are really excited about bringing this EV into New Zealand, and it seems many other EV enthusiasts are too. In a matter days we’ve had a large volume of people register their interest to hear more about this vehicle, as well as pre-orders.”

The Ioniq 5 is due to be launched in New Zealand in the second half of this year.

It is the first model built on Hyundai Motor Group’s new dedicated architecture for battery electric vehicles, called Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

The Ioniq 5 is also the first model in the new Ioniq product line-up brand, redefining the electric mobility lifestyle with sustainable and innovative features – from the eco-friendly materials of its interior design, to ultra-fast charging and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.

People can pre-order online.

A $500 deposit is required which is fully refundable should the customer not wish to proceed once the New Zealand specification and price for the Ioniq 5 is released closer to the local launch.
