Ram-raiders hit Christchurch bike emporium

Scotty Browns Bike Emporium in Christchurch had bikes and other gear stolen in a 4am ram-raid with thieves using the store’s van to do the ramming.

Thousands of dollars in goods have been taken, Scotty Brown telling Stuff he believes about $25,000 worth in total from the Sydenham store which has been open for 28 years.

Brown has insurance cover, but says he is frustrated by the ram-raid, especially as the emporium has gone through a lot since the Christchurch earthquakes.

The emporium includes a wide range of bike-related products, including e-bikes.

Brown expects to reopen late on July 15 following police investigations.

E-bike thefts have increased considerably of late.
