Mercedes-AMG’s all electric EQE 53 will be sold here, but Mercedes-Benz New Zealand says it’s too early to say when.

“Further information, including local specification, will be available closer to launch,” it says.

The 53 4Matic+ and entry level 43 4Matic are high-performance saloons, the 53 having 460kW of power, 950Nm torque and an estimated 444-518km range (WLTP).

They’re based on Mercedes’ electric-exclusive luxury and premium class architecture (EVA2) and have AMG-specific solutions – particularly in the areas of drive, suspension, brakes, sound, exterior and interior design, and equipment.

“With two new models, we are expanding our range with purely electrically powered performance vehicles and are thus addressing additional target groups,” Mercedes-AMG GmbH management board chairman Philipp Schiemer says.

The EQE 53 focuses on even more sportiness and greater driving dynamics, he adds, and can do zero to 100km/h in 3.3 seconds.

AMG derivatives based on EVA2 and stand-alone AMG EVs will follow soon based on AMG.EA, the completely in-house-developed platform, Schiemer explains.

Both new Mercedes-AMG EQE models offer a performance-oriented drive concept with two electric motors, providing fully variable all-wheel drive.

Each EQE has a 90.6kWh battery pack with 328volts, allowing charge up rates of about 170kW at DC fast chargers, giving up to 180km range in 15 minutes.

Many other features are included, such as power regeneration which can restore up to 260kW.

More will be revealed by Mercedes-Benz New Zealand closer to the local launch.
