Nissan is investing US$500 million to transform its Canton Mississippi assembly plant to build new Nissan and Infiniti EV models starting in 2025.

These are part of Nissan Ambition 2030, calling for 23 electrified models for the Nissan and Infiniti brands globally, including 15 fully electric vehicles, by 2030.

The company has now invested US$13.5 billion in its US manufacturing operations, the latest investment supporting retraining and upskilling nearly 2000 jobs and transforming the Canton plant into a centre for EV manufacturing and technology.

“Nissan is making a strong investment in Canton’s future, bringing the latest technology, training and process to create a truly best-in-class EV manufacturing team.”

Its investment there is supported by strong partnerships with state, county and local governments.

“For nearly two decades, Mississippians have kept our state at the forefront of the world’s automotive industry,” governor Tate Reeves says.

“We are a top state for automotive leaders, and this significant investment by Nissan in the Canton facility lets the world know that we are open for business and our workforce is ready to take on these in-demand jobs of the future.”

Nissan has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality across the company’s global operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050 by pursuing further innovations in electrification and manufacturing technology.

As part of this effort, Nissan is targeting 40% of its US vehicle sales volume to be fully electric by 2030, with even more to be electrified.

Its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant celebrates 19 years of manufacturing operations this year, employing about 5000 people and building nearly five million vehicles since opening in 2003. It currently builds four models – Altima, Frontier, Titan and Titan XD.
