The awards were announced at the show’s press day preview on April 13, with April 14 also a press day.

Public days are held from April 15-24.

The show includes an EV test track, micromobility section, and a host of electrified vehicles.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to hear the news that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has won the prestigious title of 2022 World Car of the Year,” says a Hyundai New Zealand spokesperson.

“This model has garnered many global car awards including our very own New Zealand Car of the Year, so this announcement is very much the cherry on top.

“Kiwis have really taken to the Ioniq 5 with a high volume of interest to our website as well as orders,” Hyundai NZ adds.

“If this announcement is anything to go by then we’re in for a real treat when Ioniq 6 and 7 reach our shores.”
