ABB backs Shell’s global EV charging
ABB E-mobility has signed a new global framework agreement with Shell to supply its full portfolio of EV charging solutions for millions of EV drivers.
The agreement builds on a long-standing partnership between the two companies and will see ABB E-mobility support Shell in creating a global EV charging network.
ABB’s end-to-end portfolio of AC and DC charging stations range from the AC wallbox for home, work or retail installations to the Terra 360 which is ideal for refuelling stations, urban charging stations, retail parking and fleet applications.
The Terra 360 is the world’s fastest all-in-one electric car charger, ABB says.
Through the latest collaboration, ABB E-mobility and Shell will help address two of the challenges to increasing EV adoption.
Shell is targeting the operation of more than 500,000 charge points globally by 2025 and 2.5 million by 2030, either at residential, commercial or Shell retail sites and increased charging speeds.
“In line with our mutual involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, both ABB and Shell are innovating to drive progress in e-mobility,” says ABB E-mobility chief executive Frank Muehlon.
“We have been working together on the roll-out of public charging infrastructure since 2019 and this latest agreement takes that collaboration to the next level.
“With access to the full breadth of our charging portfolio, we are ensuring that Shell can select the most appropriate solution for every use case, helping to get more people charging regardless of their location.”
ABB has sold more than 680,000 EV chargers across at least 85 markets; over 30,000 DC fast chargers and 650,000 AC chargers, including those sold through Chargedot.
The title partner of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, ABB technology supports the events at city-street tracks around the globe and the company will be the official charging supplier from season 9.
In the latest Formula E event in Monaco, Jaguar TCS Racing’s Kiwi driver Mitch Evans got pole position and finished second to boost him to third in the championship – nine points behind race winner and championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne of the Mercedes-EQ team.
Evans says he had to conserve energy during the latter stages in Monte Carlo after winning Rome’s double-header with plenty of power left.
Jaguar is now third in the team standings, 26 points behind leader Mercedes-EQ.
