Mercedes-AMG unveils Taycan rival in concept form
Mercedes-Benz continues to release more vehicles teasing its electric future.
The German marque’s performance arm, AMG, has revealed its latest plug-in concept; the Vision AMG Concept.
“The Vision AMG shows in spectacular style what electrification could look like at Mercedes-AMG while staying true to the brand aesthetic,” says Philipp Schiemer CEO of Mercedes-AMG.
“The study’s extreme proportions create fascination and passion for performance – that’s what AMG is all about.”

Its sleek four-door silhouette positions the model as a prime rival for the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Audi e-tron RS.
While Mercedes hasn’t confirmed whether the model will be put into production, Autocar UK reports that it’s already a done deal.
The Vision AMG Concept sits on the three-pointed star’s new AMG.EA architecture, giving some rise to the speculation that the model will go into production. The first car based on the AMG.EA platform is scheduled to debut in 2025.

While it may look svelte in images, the Vision is also huge. It is 5100mm long, making it almost six inches longer than a Taycan. With the four wheels pushed very far into the corners, almost all of the ample length is soaked up in the Vision’s wheelbase.
The smooth silhouette and pinched rear gives the Vision a similar profile to the Mercedes-Benz EQXX revealed earlier this year.
The Vision is clearly the more serious performance car of the pair, though, with its comprehensive diffuser area, aero 22-inch wheels, and visually lower roofline.

AMG didn’t cite power or torque figures for the Vision, nor did it quote acceleration times or top speed figures. It did, however, explain that it will be building every element of the Vision’s drivetrain in-house.
This means the Vision will come with a Mercedes-built powertrain, high-voltage battery, and drive technology. This has been made possible in part by Mercedes’ recent acquisition of Yasa; a company that builds axial flux motors.
