BYD Atto 3 owners in New Zealand can look forward to receiving a new vehicle-to-load adapter and a new mobile app in the near future.

An information leak to EVs & Beyond has given us a first look at the new plug unit and app, while also confirming a remedy for owners dealing with data issues in their vehicles.

The new V2L load adapter is the second issued to the New Zealand market, improving on the model issued with early models in that it is now splash proof. It also comes with an exterior on/off button and two plugs, giving users the ability to power two things at once.

The change follows concerns overseas that the previous load adapter unit had failed Australian compliance, something which BYD denied.

It’s understood that the new unit has been constructed to meet local WorkSafe standards.

The leak also included the first images of BYD’s upcoming app, showing some of the features that owners will be able to access from their device.

The app screenshots show that users will be able to turn on their air conditioning and seat heating remotely, while also being able to open and close windows and unlock doors. Another screen shows that users will be able to monitor tyre pressures from the app.

It’s understood that owners will also be able to turn on and pre-condition their vehicles via the app; a handy addition for electric vehicles.

Lastly, EVs & Beyond understands that BYD New Zealand is in the process of remedying an issue that some owners have come across in regards to data.

There have been numerous reports of Atto 3 owners running out of data in their vehicles. Data is used to run several features in each model, including the built-in Spotify.

It’s understood that this is temporary data, sourced via an overseas sim included in early models. EVs & Beyond has been informed that updated local sims are in the works, with local testing underway this week.

Atto 3 owners are understood to be able to swap from their first sim to the second during service visits. EVs & Beyond has been notified that the two years of free data promised to customers will only start once they have swapped from their old overseas sim to a new local sim.

The news comes as a considerable shipment of BYD Atto 3s arrives in the country, likely ensuring that the model enjoys a surge in registrations before the end of the year.
