Mighty electric truck to be displayed here
Hyundai New Zealand’s new Mighty electric powered truck will be previewed at the TMC Trailers Trucking Industry Show in Canterbury November 25-26 and displayed at the National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek near Hamilton November 30 to December 3.
The Mighty electric is the latest in Hyundai New Zealand’s fleet of carbon-neutral commercial vehicles after it launched New Zealand’s first hydrogen powered heavy truck the Xcient fuel cell a year ago.
While the Xcient is ideal for heavier loads and longer distances, the Mighty electric suits metro and last mile zero emission delivery, Hyundai NZ says.
Customers will have an opportunity to see how the Mighty electric can help decarbonise their business while getting the grunt work done, says Hyundai NZ chief executive Andy Sinclair.
“This early production model allows us to showcase the new all-electric technology to our commercial customers, and to test the truck in local conditions and applications.
“We’re excited to show customers how the Mighty electric keeps what people love about the Mighty range, while using new technology to reduce emissions and improve safety and efficiency.”
Sinclair says efficiency advancements mean customers will have more than just a zero-emission version of the Mighty truck range first introduced to New Zealand in 2017.
“The electric version of the Mighty is fitted out with the very latest in cab design, driving aids and safety features, it will also have a full air brake system with a wheel-activated parking brake.”

The Mighty electric has 240km range (AER240), utilising ECO mode and regenerative braking that can recover up to 33% of the vehicle’s energy.
“Just a 20-minute rapid charge, less than the time it would take to load cargo, grants 100km of all-electric range,” says Sinclair.
Heavy vehicles make up 4% of the national vehicle fleet but are responsible for 25% of all vehicle emissions, meaning every zero-emission truck makes a big difference, Hyundai NZ explains.
The Mighty electric has a 120kW/1007Nm traction motor, powered by a 502Volt battery system and will be available in two model variants of 5995kg and 7200kg gross vehicle mass (GVM).
Both will be four by two configurations with a 3300mm wheelbase and operate in the light-duty truck segment with a cargo capacity between 1845kg to 3500kg, depending on variant and upper body specification.
Hyundai Mighty electric series production is due to start in the first quarter of 2023, with final specifications and pricing yet to be confirmed.
