Dunedin Suzuki dealer Emma Gilmour has helped the Neom McLaren Extreme E team to second place in the final round five of the season’s electric racing.

Gilmour kept up the pace set by fellow driver Tanner Foust, to follow the Abt Cupra team’s Klara Andersson home in the Uruguay Natural Energy X Prix Final, ensuring fifth place for the McLaren team in this year’s series.

Lewis Hamilton’s X44 Racing team won the overall championship, drivers Sebastian Loeb and Cristina Gutierres needing just a podium finish to seal the deal.

It’s Gilmour’s first podium finish for McLaren Racing, saying her second placing demonstrates the experience female drivers can bring to motorsport.

Gilmour joined McLaren after initially driving for Veloce Racing in Extreme E and became a MITO ambassador in August this year.

She also featured in the March EVs and Beyond magazine.
