The Mustang Mach-E has seen price drops in the US, which could be mirrored here, Stuff reports.

It says Ford’s Mach-E US price cuts were mainly centred on more expensive versions, with the GT Extended Range going from about US$64,000 from US$69,900 before, a US$5900 decrease. The entry model went down by US$900, from US$46,900 down to US$46,000.

Stuff asked Ford New Zealand if any price drops are on the way and learns it’s too early to say. “We want to stay competitive, so we’ll take any opportunity to do so,” says a spokesperson. “But we can’t confirm if there will be any price drops at this stage.”

The spokesperson says about 200 Mach-E orders are logged – mostly from existing Mustang owners.

Three models are due when the electric SUV launches in New Zealand, expected in Q2 this year.

The Mach-e RWD model with a 75.7kWh battery has about 440km range, the AWD has a 98.7kWh battery and a claimed 550km range, while the Mach-E GT AWD has a similar battery providing 490km range.

Prices for the RWD model start below the Clean Car scheme $80,000 threshold at $79,990 drive-away, while the AWD is $109,990 plus on-roads and the Mach-E GT $124,990 plus on-roads.

Stuff speculates that If New Zealand gets similar price cuts to the US, the GT could drop below $120,000.

More information is expected closer to the Mach-E launch in New Zealand.
