First GMC Hummer EV SUV auctioned for a cause
General Motors auctioned its first 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV VIN 001 for US$500,000 (NZ$770,995) with all proceeds going to US outdoor recreation preservation non-profit group Tread Lightly!
The January 28 Hummer EV auction at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction saw Barrett-Jackson waive its fees and commissions which allowed the full sale amount to go to the group.
“GMC is proud to support Tread Lightly!’s mission and conservation efforts through this year’s Barrett-Jackson auction,” says Buick and GMC global vice-president Duncan Aldred.
“The all-electric 2024 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV is an extremely off-road capable vehicle, tested and validated everywhere from the snow in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to the desert in Moab, Utah. As outdoor enthusiasts, we know the importance of protecting public lands and trails and are honoured to support this initiative.”
Tread Lightly! executive director Matt Caldwell is grateful for GM’s initiative, adding the funds will ensure numerous trail restoration projects and education programmes.
GM says GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV reservations are already booked out with production starting at GM’s Factory Zero which will also produce the Hummer EV Pickup and the Sierra EV Denali Edition
The first production unit of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 pickup sold for US$2.5 million in March 2021 with proceeds benefiting the Tunnels to Towers Foundation in memory of September 11, 2001 first responder Stephen Siller, a firefighter killed in the Twin Towers terrorist act.
