Baojun Yep EV from China
Baojun has revealed its off-road-style EV design, dubbed YuYe in Chinese or “Yep” in English.
It’s expected to debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show in April and launch on the Chinese market in May.
The model appeared in concept form with Kiwi branding in a teaser last year, Carscoops reports, adding Baojun appears to have changed plans and will have its own badge in the production model.
“As reported by CarNewsChina, the name of the EV is 悦也 (YueYe) in Chinese, translating to a simple Yep in English.”
The Baojun Yep looks similar to the concept, with off-roader proportions, and is about 3.381 metres long, 1.685m wide and 1.721m high – reportedly slightly shorter but otherwise the same as the Suzuki Jimny.
Specifications have not yet been officially announced by Baojun, a sub-brand of the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture.
Some information has come from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Technology, indicating the Baojun Yep rear-wheel drive will has a single electric motor producing 50kW of power and 140Nm torque, with a 100km/h top speed.
The lithium iron phosphate battery is likely to allow more than 300km range (CLTC – the WLTP equivalent of Chinese automakers).
A more powerful variant with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive is expected later.
More about the Baojun Yep is expected in coming months, including pricing and where it may be available.
