Welcome to the EVs and Beyond February 2023 issue
All of the recent talk has been weather related, more so the bidirectional ability of modern EVs to power essential equipment during a power cut.
Many of these new EVs have been used for good purpose during our extreme weather events and feature in the latest magazine.
The BYD Atto 3 is among them, and was also named New Zealand Car of the Year by the New Zealand Motoring Writers’ Guild – the first Chinese brand to claim it. More about that in this issue, along with BYD’s new app.
We also look at the newly launched Skoda Enyaq SportLine EV and whether more electrics are coming from the brand.
Plenty of other EVs are studied too, along with the solar car market.
The Electric Island Waiheke Trust recently hosted an “EV Gala Day” and will no doubt be delighted about the Waiheke Resource Trust’s EV moves covered in this magazine.
An Australian-based electric scooter brand Mearth has launched in New Zealand – you can read about what it offers.
EV dealers report a generally slow start to the year for secondhand EV sales, but say things are picking up.
Insurance payouts, most related to weather events, are encouraging some to buy an EV. But the Australian port situation which is delaying several shipments means some dealerships are struggling to get sufficient stock.
Some dealers wonder if more Government tinkering with the Clean Car scheme and financial help with extreme weather event recovery, especially that signaled for the May 18 budget announcement, will also aid them.
They have other suggestions for how the Government may help the trade and ponder the increasing uptake of new EVs.
Plus there are our dealer pages, EV charging map, and other stories for your e-mobility reading pleasure.
