BYD smartwatch with car key in April

BYD is tipped to launch its smartwatch with in-built car key in April this year.

New details aaround the BYD smartwatch show the Chinese company adopted a circular dial design with the BYD logo at noon and a power button in the lower left corner, CarNewsChina reports.

In November 2021, BYD unveiled a branded smartwatch that could unlock BYD cars, including features such as smart ignition, comfortable entry, smart locking, raising and lowering windows, and could open the tailgate, the report says, adding the smartwatch is expected to replace BYD car keys.

CarNewsChina says the smartwatch can support five to seven days of continuous use before recharging and includes health related items such as heart rate monitoring, along with caller information reminders.

BYD Dolphin 2023 and Corvette 07 models can be locked, unlocked and started using the NFC digital key, even when an iPhone or Apple Watch is in low power mode, says the publication, adding that BYD intends introducing the feature in other future models.

It says Nio is also finalising development of a Nio smartphone to replace keys for its models.
