Electric vehicle sales get CCD bump
In spite of the modest change in rebate for new vehicles, around $1500, and an increase for used ones, electric vehicle sales saw a strong performance in June.
New battery-electric registrations for the month reached a total of 2627 units (passenger and commercial), contributing over a quarter to the year-to-date count of 9578.
Tesla led the pack with 965 units, followed by BYD with 440, Hyundai with 310, MG with 260, Kia with 128, Ford with 99, Volkswagen with 67, Peugeot with 53, GWM Ora with 44, and BMW with 42.
Tesla’s Model Y took the top spot with 765 units, succeeded by the BYD Atto 3 with 440, MG ZS with 260, Tesla Model 3 with 200, Hyundai Ioniq with 182, Ford Mustang Mach-E with 98, Kia EV6 with 93, Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 91, Volkswagen ID5 with 57, and Gem Ora Cat with 44.
The influx of Volkswagen ID5 is intriguing as the model is yet to have its official launch.
A total of 304 used imported electric vehicles were registered.
The Nissan Leaf was the leading model with 271 units, surprisingly followed by the Genesis GV70 – a luxury electric SUV currently under consideration for local sale as a new vehicle.
