Mazda MX-30 BEV to continue in New Zealand
Mazda New Zealand has confirmed that the MX-30 battery electric vehicle will remain part of its product cycle for the foreseeable future.
That’s in spite of the car being pulled from the Californian market, where sales to date for 2023 have totalled 66 units according to Electrek.
It says this was the second attempt by Mazda to sell the MX-30 in California, it had previously sold 505 cars in the market before it had a six-month hiatus and sales resumed in January 2023.
Electrek believes the MX-30 BEV was being sold in California as a compliance vehicle and seemed like a call back to such programs which ran a decade ago in the western US state.
Mazda New Zealand product manager Tim Nalden says different markets have different regulations and this often dictates where product is distributed by the manufacturers. He points out the Australian Capital Territory’s (ACT) desire to ban the sales of ICE cars from 2035.
Nalden says the MX-30 BEV remains firmly in the Mazda New Zealand product cycle and there are no plans yet for that to change.
