Electrification features at Climate Change and Business Conference
What’s needed to secure New Zealand’s net zero future will be discussed at the 15th Climate Change and Business Conference in Auckland on September 19 and 20.
More than 600 people will gather at the Viaduct Events Centre for the event, delivered in partnership between the Environmental Defence Society (EDS), Sustainable Business Council (SBC) and Climate Leaders Coalition (CLC).
This year’s programme focuses on identifying effective adaptation pathways, a highly relevant theme given 2023’s severe weather events, as well as maintaining the momentum on achieving real emission reductions at pace.
Other topics include the role of the Emissions Trading Scheme, biodiversity, our journey to electrification, agriculture, and how the transition is financed.
Speakers include climate change minister James Shaw, energy and resources minister Megan Woods, and opposition climate spokesperson Simon Watts.
The programme includes nearly 100 international and local panellists representing business, government, policy makers, NGOs, academics, media, scientists and more.
“Climate change affects us all – our whānau, our communities and our businesses,” says chief executive and secretary for the environment James Palmer of foundation sponsor the Ministry for the Environment.
“The Climate Change and Business Conference is an opportunity for people to learn from each other and make connections.
Another foundation sponsor, Westpac sustainability head Belinda van Eyndhoven says the conference gives industry leaders the chance to “share knowledge, come up with new ideas, and collaborate on action”.
