World Energy Council celebrates century
New Zealand will be the first country to begin a global celebration of 100 years of energy impact with the World Energy Council on Wednesday October 11.
A celebration to help galvanise the world energy community around transforming energy systems at speed and scale will be held at Chapman Tripp, 34/15 Customs Street West in Auckland on October 11, 3pm-4.30pm.
Speakers will cover four main periods (1920s-1950s, 1960s to 1984, 1984 to 2000s, and 2000s and beyond).
BusinessNZ Energy Council executive director Tina Schirr says the council has welcomed visionary members over the years, including Albert Einstein and father of quantum theory Max Planck.
“These members, and many more like them, exemplify the spirit of the World Energy Council,” she adds.
“We find inspiration in the legacy of these pioneers. Their groundbreaking work continues to shape our world and guide us toward a sustainable energy future.
“As we reflect on our past, we celebrate our legacy of bringing nations, industries, government and future leaders together to address global and local energy challenges.
The council is in almost 100 nations to progress solutions, inspire leadership, and promote the sustainable supply and use of energy around the world.
The centenary celebration in Auckland will bring senior leaders and young professionals together to reflect on the past and ask what the next hundred years of energy might look like.
Speakers include Schirr, Todd Corporation board of directors family director Rebecca Turner, “Power Surge” author John Boshier, former treasury secretary Dr Graham Scott, and GNS Science energy future theme leader Dr Isabelle Chambefort.
