Call for phasing out fossil fuels expected at COP28
Fossil fuels’ future is set to be discussed at the United Nations COP28 climate summit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on November 30 to December 12 this year.
Reports suggest many countries will seek a deal to phase out oil, coal and gas amid a move to more renewable energy sources including green electricity and hydrogen.
More renewable energy is sought to power vehicles such as EVs, and for homes and businesses.
US climate envoy John Kerry suggests fossil fuel companies need to step up and prove they can join global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, says Reuters, adding UAE incoming COP28 president Sultan Al Jaber (head of the country’s state oil firm ADNOC ) is asking fossil fuel firms to make CO2-cutting pledges at COP28.
