BEVs still popular
About 2624 battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations for goods van/truck/utility, passenger car/van were recorded by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency in October 2023.
The Nissan Leaf is the most popular EV with 661 registrations recorded for that month.
The MG 4 follows with 357 registrations (762 for the year-to-date) the BYD Atto 3 at 246 (2406 YTD), the new Nissan Leaf on 165 (306 YTD) and the Tesla Model Y with 139 (3034 YTD).
Others in October include the MG ZS (122), BYD Dolphin (113), GWM Ora and Volkswagen ID.4 (both on 97), Kia EV 6 (69), Polestar 2 (60), Mini Hatch (54), Kia Niro (49), Kia EV9 (42), Peugeot 208 (42), Hyundai Kona (41) and Ford Mustang Mach-E (38).
Some NZTA fees changed on October 1 this year.
Meanwhile, BYD is closing in on Tesla for EV sales, Electrek reports, adding BYD had a record NZ$2.44 billion (US$1.42b or RMB 10.41b) third quarter profit.
