Video: Electric Volvo EM90 premium MPV launched
The Volvo EM90 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) will first appear in China where it is now available for pre-orders.
The “minivan” follows the reveal earlier this year of Volvo’s electric EX30 small SUV.
The EM90 is Volvo’s second model portfolio expansion, both designed to help Volvo reach new audiences, cover more of the global automotive market and realise more profitable volume.
Says Volvo; “The EM90 also reinforces our commitment to be a fully electric car maker by 2030.
“In coming years we’ll roll out a whole family of new, fully electric Volvo cars, delivering on everything our customers expect from a Volvo with zero tailpipe emissions.”
“With the EM90, we’re taking Volvo Cars’ heritage and leadership in safety into the exciting new electric MPV segment,” says Volvo Cars chief executive Jim Rowan.
“It allows us to tap new market demand we’ve not explored before and broadens the appeal of the Volvo brand to more people.”
It has a 116kWh battery, 738km range (China light-duty vehicle test cycle or CLTC), bidirectional capability, 200kW power, can charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes, accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 8.3 seconds, has plenty of driver assistance systems, and comes with 19-inch or 20-inch wheels.
When the EM90 is not used for family trips, it doubles as executive business transport, says Volvo.
Volvo Cars employs about 43,200 full-time employees with its head office, product development, marketing and administration functions mainly in Gothenburg, Sweden, and production plants in Gothenburg, Ghent (Belgium), South Carolina (US), Chengdu, Daqing and Taizhou (China) while research and development and design centres are in Gothenburg and Shanghai (China).
