GWM Ora EV recall

An international recall for the Ora EV includes New Zealand, says GWM/Haval New Zealand national sales manager Sean Tupp.

He says the brand will initiate a recall campaign through its national dealership network once it has received all the necessary information from the manufacturer, with about 523 Ora EVs affected here.

Meanwhile, all 1659 GWM Ora vehicles in Australia will be recalled, the issue attributed to a software problem which could potentially be lethal when charging the EV.

The federal transport department issued a warning for all variants of the GWM Ora electric hatchback, The Driven.io reports.

“Due to a programming issue, if the operator removes the charging cable without cancelling the charge, an electrical arc between the charging plug and the vehicle may occur,” says the recall notice.

“If an electrical arc comes into contact with the operator or bystanders, it will increase the risk of serious injury or death.”

GWM will contact Ora owners about the recall there and update its software free.
