Five category winners selected for the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) include some EVs.

The Volvo EX30 (Family Car category winner), BMW 5 Series (Large Car) which includes a fully electric variant, and the Kia EV9 (SUV) are among them.

The 4×4 and Pick-Up (ute) category winner the Volkswagen Amarok has the option of five engines to suit the market, with an electrified version expected in showrooms around the end of this decade.

The Aston Martin DB12 V8 was selected as the Exclusive Car category winner.

“All these vehicles represent excellence in their segments in terms of safety, driving, technology, comfort, efficiency, environmental impact and value for money,” says WWCOTY.

Winners were chosen by 75 women motoring journalists from 52 countries from 62 candidates, all the vehicles having to be launched in at least two continents between January 1 and December 31, 2023.

The work of the jurors over the past year has been marked by a market in continuous evolution towards more efficient and sustainable models, says WWCOTY president Marta Garcia.

“All have responded to demanding driving tests, detailed analysis and challenging studies of the competition,” she says.

“That’s why the WWCOTY awards are the benchmark for millions of buyers around the world.”

The five category winners go to the final judging round with the top WWCOTY winner announced on March 8 (international Women’s Day) via WWCOTY’s YouTube channel.
