BEDEO offers EV retrofit for classic cars
London-based international company BEDEO Group (formerly BD Auto) has launched a classic car EV retrofit system, starting with a Land Rover Defender.
In tandem with fleet decarbonisation efforts, BEDEO’s “Reborn Electric: Icons” features in-wheel motors (IWMs), an addition to the group’s EV solutions such as “Build Electric” and “Drive Electric”.
Fitted with a 75kWh battery, the Defender conversion has an estimated 247km range (WLTP) and combined with a standard 22kW on-board charger and optional 50kW fast charging, it delivers 100% charge between 90 minutes and five hours, says BEDEO.
It says theIWM, battery and charger are around the same weight as the diesel engine removed in the conversion process.
Utilising its IWM technology, developed by group company Protean Electric, BEDEO says it is expanding its electrification solutions to a wider range of passenger cars, and into the marine and aviation markets as well.
Meanwhile, BEDEO has released a whitepaper “Accelerating the Transition, Supporting our Businesses: Enabling Low-Emission Fleets with Retrofit Electrification”, which underscores the critical need for introducing incentives in the UK for those looking to retrofit, and for retrofitters to be tighter regulated and scrutinised on safety and quality standards.
Founded in 2009 by Osman Boyner, the company is headquartered in Farnham, United Kingdom, with manufacturing in Turkey and China.
With research and development operations also in the UK, BEDEO intends working with partners around the world to jointly offer its EV retrofit system for iconic cars together with customisation and refurbishment options.
