H2 generator powers Toyota Fieldays site
A Toyota hydrogen generator is powering the Toyota Fieldays site.
Toyota New Zealand says that its display there reflects its approach to providing Kiwis with a range of mobility and low emission powertrains.
The hydrogen generator supplies clean energy to the stand while emitting nothing but a few drops of warm water.
It was developed in partnership with a European technology company, using a fuel cell similar to the power unit inside the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai car.
Toyota New Zealand chief executive Neeraj Lala says using the hydrogen generator demonstrates Toyota’s focus on hydrogen as a genuine clean energy alternative for future innovation and technology beyond cars.
Lala says Toyota is focused on providing a range of electrified powertrains for its customers including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and hybrid technologies, with more than 80% of the product range now electrified.
The marque says it aims to provide choice for customers with multiple powertrains, a varied product range and a mix of new and used vehicles that meet the needs of New Zealand now and in the future.
Toyota includes the new Hilux hybrid and the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in its Fieldays line-up, both of which have lower emission powertrains.
Lala says Toyota has capped Hilux sales at a maximum 30% of its total annual vehicles so that limiting sales of higher-emitting vehicles will help support the transition to a lower carbon economy.
“Where there has been some noise of a downturn in the market, our experience so far this year is that demand remains strong for Toyota products,” he says.
“Customers continue to support Toyota and Lexus vehicles with high demand for hybrid products,” says Lala.
“We will continue to provide customers with a unique purchase experience through our network of 90 Toyota Stores nationwide,”
Toyota is at site 40 on I road, June 12-15, Mystery Creek Fieldays 2024.
