Omoda E5 passes water wading and underbody scraping tests
According to the local distributor, the Omoda E5 has passed two electric vehicle battery safety tests since its launch in New Zealand in April.
Omoda Jaecoo New Zealand says the tests included standard battery water wading and underbody scraping, which showcased the E5’s safety features.
“Surpassing these tests is a testament to the quality our Omoda E5 offers the New Zealand customer,” Omoda Jaecoo New Zealand country manager Sheldon Humphries says.
Water wading assesses several challenging conditions, including water resistance and sealing, simulating extreme weather conditions, and testing vehicle driving capabilities in water.
The Omoda E5 could drive steadily through the pool with the front grille almost completely submerged.
The underbody scraping test evaluates a vehicle’s ground clearance and structural integrity.
The Omoda E5 drove over a 210mm high metal post in a simulated real-world scenario with obstacles on the road. The underbody battery pack remained undamaged. This test highlights the Omoda E5’s durability and suitability for various road conditions says the distributor.
“Omoda strives to elevate our safety standards through advancements in technology and engineering. We are proud of these results and believe they provide customers with a sound reassurance of the vehicle’s capabilities in challenging conditions,” Humphries says.
He says Omoda uses blade battery technology in all its electric vehicles, and it is renowned for its safety features, increased energy density, and longer cycle life compared to traditional lithium-ion battery packs.
Omoda Jaecoo New Zealand provides all Omoda customers with a seven-year warranty, a complimentary up to seven-year AA roadside assistance package, and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty for EV models*.
The brand says it will release eight models in New Zealand over the next two years.
