Electrogenic DeLorean DMC-12 to electrify UK’s Salon Prive 2024
A “plug and play” kit gives a drivetrain to match the “Back to the Future” star car DeLorean DMC-12’s sci-fi looks when it features at the Salon Prive 2024 at Blenheim Palace in the United Kingdom from August 28-31.
EV technology company Electrogenic has confirmed the DeLorean’s attendance at the 19th Salon Prive automotive garden party where guests will have a rare opportunity to inspect the electrified automotive icon up close.
Electrogenic’s custom “plug and play” EV conversion kit transforms the 1980s supercar into providing more than 241km range, replacing the low-tech Renault V6 engine reported to be “tepid” due to catalysts to meet strict US emissions regulations.
It has a 43kW battery pack, produces 164kW power from its rear electric motor, has vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, launch control, regenerative braking, and can use the latest CCS rapid chargers.
Former General Motors executive John DeLorean designed the car in partnership with Lotus, built in Belfast, and launched in mid-1981.
Its wedge styling, gullwing doors, and composite construction with stainless-steel bodywork are features, with most of the more than 9000 DeLoreans built still on the road.
“The world-famous DeLorean is always a huge draw, and this incredible development from Electrogenic creates arguably the finest DMC-12 ever,” says Salon Prive director David Bagley.
“The engine was always its weakest link, so replacing it with a powerful, long-range electric drivetrain arguably turns it into the high-tech sci-fi car it should have been.”
