BYD Seal 06 GT photos revealed ahead of launch

BYD has issued the first official images of its Seal 06 GT, the production version of the Ocean-M concept, with its launch due on August 30 at the Chengdu Motor Show (August 30-September 8) in China.

The new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer put three images of the Seal 06 GT on Weibo.

The Seal 06 GT has a sporty and performance car look but not as aggressive as the design of the Ocean-M concept, says CnEVPost.

The new EV will be the first GT model for young people, says BYD.

BYD revealed the Ocean-M at the 2024 Beijing auto show in April, saying then it would be the industry’s first rear-drive performance hatchback.

The production Ocean-M will go on sale in the third quarter of this year, with a price range of RMB150,000 (NZ$34,000) to RMB200,000 (NZ$45,341), BYD said at the time, says CnEVPost.

It reckons the Ocean-M will be built on BYD’s new all-electric platform and will be powered by a new generation of cell-to-body batteries, according to BYD.

BYD Ocean series head Zhang Zhuo says on Weibo the production version of the Ocean-M concept is named the Seal 06 GT.

More details are expected at the launch.

BYD Auto New Zealand brand manager Warren Willmot says they have an eye on the BYD Seal 06 GT but that it’s not in the immediate 15 vehicle launch plan.
